I want to power wash my car engine.?

Is it safe to do so at the local car wash %26amp; if so, does the car need to off or on??I want to power wash my car engine.?
it is perfectly safe. i have done it for years, on my trucks, cars, and motorcycles. engine off, then the fan wont throw dirty water all over the place.I want to power wash my car engine.?
don't bother. unless you are taking it to a car show. and if you are taking it to a car show, you should clean the engine by hand. a little bit of dirt and grease on the outside of your engine wont hurt it a bit.
DO NOT WASH THE ENGINE

All the senors are on the to[p of the engine. Power washing it will short out the sensors and you will have a big expence.

WE had a car come into the shop cause it would not start, seems the guy was a fanatic about keeping his car clean.

He washed the engine and shorted out all the sensors, 1285 dollors in damage. Tat was just for the parts and not the labor.

Please dont wash your engine, or get it wet.

Dons Auto
What the guy above failed to realize is that when you're going down the road and it's raining that the fan behind the radiator draws in air that has plenty of water mixed in it, especially when it is raining hard. It is ok to wash your engine, just don't spray high pressure water AT any wires or places that you see wires coming from. You don't have to worry about not getting them wet, but don't spray water at them. The best thing that I've used to clean an engine is the citrus engine brite. You rinse the engine, then spray that stuff on there and it will loosen any built up grease and then you can rinse it off without having to scrub it at all.
since your car engine probably has electric parts (battery comes to mind right away) you should be very careful about exposing it to water; water could short the engine and make it so it doesn't work at all.
you can pressure wash engines on. try not to spray wiring, alternator, and dont spray anything inside you intake or air filter. ive pressure washed batteries before. nothing happens.
yes it safe to pressure wash your engine if at all possible, have your engine cooled if it's an aluminum block it may crack it if ti's too hot
hello yes you could wash your engine when you go to car wash use that engine soap. clean the head of the engine and every were else try not to soak the alternator just spray all the greasy parts then rinse with regular water i do it whenever i have to find out were the engine leak is located just dont spray directly into the alternator after rinse turn engine on so it can dry up
Ow, bad idea. You got all kinds of stuff that doesn't need to be exposed to high pressure nor large amounts of water. Battery, like one guy said, is a bad thing to blow up. If you get and electrical fire, it is so hot it burns the oxygen right out of the immediate surrounding area. Then you got your spark plug wires, they could just come lose no big thing. The list of why not to goes on and on, but there is a engine cleaner out, I saw it at wal mart a little while back. Dunno how it works but I would try that. Besides if wal mart aint got it, I don't need it.
