I use plain water to clean my deck %26amp; house. It does a very good job for me. I use a 3/4 inch garden hose to supply the machine with enough water as to not starve the pump. As for the machine you suggest, $130 must be for an electric pressure washer. I have used them with limited sucess. They have limited power and burn out quickly for me. I prefer a gasoline powered machine with 2500 psi. It does a fantastic job, is not too powerful for my needs and I have had it 3 1/2 years now without any problems.
PS stay away from the yellow ';Karcher'; machines. (had very bad luck with them)Should I power wash my deck and fence (townhouse) or pay someone to do it?

Ask the association who they recommend. Sometimes they can get a price break for you.
You would probably be better off hiring someone who knows how to use a power washer. These things can put out a powerful knife-like spray, and if you hold the nozzle too close or don't move it right you could rip out half the wood and end up with raised grain that looks very weatherbeaten.
Hire someone. Shouldn't cost more than $75-100.

What kind of pressure washer should I rent to power wash a deck, and what will the approximate cost be?
I've volunteered to pressure wash a friend's deck that is approximately 20' L X 8' W. I want to complete the job in one day since the house is 100 miles from my home and I'm only going to stay over one night. I know that pressure washers are rated by the number of PSI (pounds per square inch). Can anyone tell me how many PSI I should get in a rental? Is my hope to finish the job in one day realistic? The deck boards are pretty dirty due to lots of trees all around. In my opinion a 2000 to 2550 PSI unit would do the best job for you.
This would give you enough cleaning power to not be all day getting it done, and gentle enough to not rip the wood apart from extreme pressure.

At least 2000 psi..get one with a ohc engine, not a common gasoline lawnmower engine..they suck....Rent the pressure washer near your friends house for that area won't take half a day ..nowhere near it..and you can get 1/2 day rentals at about 40.00......check out my deck here on page 1 of my flickr photos....I took two coats of paint off this too bare wood with a 2600 psi one here..take in mind..when you pressure wash....it will raise the grain of the wood..let it dry a day or two..you have to let it dry..do not refinish wet....run a electric sander over the top of it after dry..just to knock the ';raised grain'; off of it before sealing etc.....
like the other said.. it can blow holes right into the wood.. stay even height and use a wide fan spray head.. i would stick to 2000psi and no more than 2500psi.. since it sounds like your first stay closer to the 2000.
what type of wood?, if it's pine,, be VERY carefull pressure washing,, since the pressure acually takes off layers of wood.you must keep it at an even spray, other wise you will end up with light, and dark spots. and the wood will be un even.your better off taking some dawn dish soap with a scrub brush, and simply washing it off with a hose. my home is cedar, and my decks are pine.I've had to do this many times.

Can i power wash the bottom of my mower?
of course, the mulch feature suffers when there's a buildup of grass clumps under the deck. this stuff is a real pain to get off. i've been wondering if i can just power wash it, or if this might risk damaging the mower in some way.Can i power wash the bottom of my mower?
You should be able to do this this with no ill effects ... but make sure to drain out the gasoline and oil (if used on your model) BEFORE you tip your mower over to wash.

Be sure to disconnect the spark plug for obvious reasons.

What are the steps to power wash and stain a deck?
My deck needs washing and staining. I am going to use my father-in-law's power washer. What are the steps involved? I am assuming that I power wash it, wait for it to completely dry, then stain it? Are the other steps involved? Also, for staining, how do you get into the hard to reach cracks and creveses? I have heard of some people using a floppy mop, has anyone ever tried this technique? Go to your Lowes or HD, and in the same isle as the water sealant for your deck, is a deck cleaning solution. It is easist to apply by a garden sprayer, let it soak/work for 15-20 min, this solution is breaking down the old stain, which will wash off with the power washer, but dont get the nozzle to close or you will forever be getting slivers fom the deck.
Allow the deck to dry for 24 hours at which time you can re-stain the deck, wait another 24 hours, and you should also put a water sealant on , the easiest way that I have found to apply Stains and Sealants is by using a garden sprayer, just make sure you cover anything you dont want stained, but it will cut the time required down to nothing compared to using a brush.What are the steps to power wash and stain a deck?
well there is not a whole lot to it. you want to make sure that you evenly remove all of the old stain off as well as make sure you don't hold the pressure gun in one area too long or you will damage the wood. you will want to have a nice easy gliding motion. but it doesn't take but a minute or so to get the hang of it. mops may work.... never used one. i have always used a paint brush or a sprayer. for the sprayer try using something like a pest control sprayer you can purchase down at the local wal mart. they are hand pumped... easy to use. this method saves alot of time.

I power wash my home ONLY when it really needs it. Power-washing forces water behind siding. Under normal conditions, this moisture will evaporate over time with no harm. However, in certain areas that have cool or damp climates, power-washing more than once a year is asking for trouble.
They have different types at your local hardware store/home depot/Lowe's
